The Luxembourg Times BusinessRun goes virtual

+++ Running with a virtual community and raising money to defeat cancer +++

Luxembourg. The plan was for colleagues to once again come together after work, either to run 5.5 km on the Kirchberg plateau or to offer their vocal support. Afterwards they would all come together for a celebratory party. Sadly this version of the Luxembourg Times BusinessRun 20 is another victim of the virus, with the health of hundreds of participants, spectators and organisers being the paramount concern.

But we are not simply cancelling the event and have found an innovative solution. The virtual Luxembourg Times BusinessRun will replicate the competition, networking and ability to raise money for a cancer charity in a safe, socially distanced fashion.

BusinessRunners can choose their own routes, which they run alone or in small groups. Participants can either participate with timekeeping using the “viRACE” app, or the free distance event at which times are not recorded.

The “viRACE” app combines virtual networking with the runs of every BusinessRunner, thus recreating the fun and competitive spirit of the live race. GPS tracking allows participants to follow and compete remotely in real time with their colleagues and friends from anywhere in the world.

“We have already used the viRACE app ourselves, and it was great fun. This is an interesting alternative adapted to current needs, making this much more than just a standard after work run”, says Anton Wolf, managing director of the organising agency.

The live event with timekeeping will start on Thursday 17 September at 7pm sharp, after which runners will complete a 5.5 km course of their choice. Subsequently the runners will feature in the virtual Luxembourg Times BusinessRun which can be viewed on the viRACE app. To participate, simply register online at the BusinessRun website.

The non-competitive “free distance without timekeeping” version allows participants to run when they want between Thursday September 17th and Sunday September 20th over a freely chosen distance. Their route can be tracked by any running app or sports watch, with the results subsequently emailed to the organiser. In this way participants support this event and their colleagues. Both they and the competitive runners will receive a medal and an online certificate.

RUN FOR CHARITY: Taking part also means supporting a good cause! “Sadly the ever-popular “Relais Pour La Vie” event – which raises so much money and awareness for the Luxembourg’s cancer charity each year – could not take place this year. Especially at this moment, we must not forget those suffering from cancer who still urgently need our support. Therefore, half of all entry fees for the virtual BusinessRun will be donated to the Fondation Cancer. We invite all participants and supporters of the Relais Pour La Vie to join us, and as well as the fun, support the fight against cancer,” says Anton Wolf.
